Come and see!…The best evangelism

The best way I know to help bring others into a saving relationship with Yeshua, is to draw them into a place where they can experience His presence for themselves.  No amount of talking about Him has the same effect. They can argue up a storm of opposition or simply express indifference. But when His manifest Presence surrounds and fills them, there is no longer any argument, no discussion necessary.

In Exodus 20:22, God instructs Moses to tell the people, “Now that you have experienced [My Presence] for yourselves…” don’t let any idol take My place.

The non-profit, fundraising arm of The Chosen is a group called, “Come and See.” Philip told Nathaniel, in answer to his skeptical question about Jesus [John 1:31], “Come and see!”   Philip, who had been referred to him by John the Baptist, asked Jesus where he was staying. Jesus responded, “Come and see.” Somehow I think He wasn’t simply talking about where He was laying His head.

But how do we draw others to Come and See?

1) I suggest we first pray for the Lord to set up ‘divine appointments’ for us and also for daily guidance and discernment for anointed words and timing.

2) I suggest that we represent Him well. Are people drawn to us because of His Holy Spirit inside us? Does our character reflect His integrity, lovingkindness, mercy, and strength? Do others feel His unconditional love flowing out of us? Does out witness flow out of us like a fresh, bubbling brook? Or do they hear gossiping, complaining, condemnation, blaming, and self-pity? Do we stand firm, speak the truth in love, and refuse to participate in modern idolatry? Or do we fold when attacked or persecuted for righteousness sake? Are we, who are to be His ambassadors and ministers of reconciliation, people they would want to emulate? Or are we just like the rest of the world they have experienced?

If it is the former, their curiosity may well draw them to His sanctuary or even His altar to Come and See.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage

This morning, I asked the Lord what song of praise He would like me to sing to Him. The title of an old hymn came immediately to mind. Once I looked up the lyrics, I realized how appropriate they were as we pray and decree regarding the crucial upcoming elections. Of course He would choose perfectly.

Here are the lyrics*:

“God of grace and God of glory, on Thy people pour Thy power. Crown Thine ancient church’s story; Bring her bud to glorious flower

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour

Lo! the hearts of evil round us scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways. From the fears that long have bound us free our hearts to faith and praise.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days, for the living of these days

Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore. Let the gift of Thy salvation be our glory evermore.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving You, Whom we adore, serving You Whom we adore

Set our feet on lofty places; gird our lives that they may be armored with all Christ-like graces in the fight to set men free*.

Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour, for the facing of this hour.

++++++++++++

So many do not understand that there are many in office, or running for such, who are trying to help free people in other countries from oppressive regimes. Great strides have recently been made and more and planned (eg in Cuba, where our hearts are daily with oppressed friends who are regularly hounded for their faith by military police). There are also hundreds of thousands caught in human trafficking, including children. Many were deceived in previous years by those who offered to ‘help’ them come into our country and then found themselves trapped in a nightmare. Not only can we help them by supporting ministries that fight trafficking (see my post called “God is in the Fight) but we can vote for those who support the exposure of this evil, as well as justice for both perpetrators and victims.

Whatever you do, don’t sit out this election, and pray and decree fervently that God’s will be done through it.
